Md Shahriar Pervez, PhD

Md Shahriar Pervez is a Geographer specializes in flood monitoring and early warning with the U.S. Geological Survey Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. He is also an adjunct faculty at South Dakota State University, Brookings, South Dakota.

Dr. Pervez, with background in geospatial sciences and engineering, hydrology, and remote sensing, conducts applied research on flood monitoring, forecasting, predictive mapping of inundation, and early warning systems with food security implications using satellite-derived data and hydrologic modeling. He has taught courses on remote sensing applications in water resources and land surface hydrology modeling.

Research topics include:

1) Flood monitoring, modeling, and predictive mapping of flood inundation using satellite-derived data and hydrologic models for providing actionable information in mitigating food security implications.

2) Reservoir water level and storage, snow hydrology, streamflow modeling, and return period assessments for flood early warning systems.

3) Societal and environmental impacts of Flooding and resilience.
