Michael Hearne
I design, develop, and deploy complex earthquake-related scientific models as applications that run 24x7 in a production environment. These systems run in near real-time and produce results that are posted to the ANSS ComCat event pages.
Mike has a Bachelor's degree in Aquatic Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and over 20 years of experience developing software for scientific organizations. He has experience with ocean color remote sensing, LIDAR, multi-spectral remote sensing for defense applications, and earthquake hazards applications.

Estimating Casualties for Large Earthquakes Worldwide Using an Empirical Approach Estimating Casualties for Large Earthquakes Worldwide Using an Empirical Approach
We developed an empirical country- and region-specific earthquake vulnerability model to be used as a candidate for post-earthquake fatality estimation by the U.S. Geological Survey's Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response (PAGER) system. The earthquake fatality rate is based on past fatal earthquakes (earthquakes causing one or more deaths) in individual countries where at...
