Patrick Jodice, PhD
Unit Leader - South Carolina Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit
Dr. Jodice is a Wildlife Research Biologist with the USGS South Carolina Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation at Clemson University. He has served as the Leader of the SC Cooperative Research Unit since 2006 where he has worked with colleagues at state agencies, federal agencies, and NGOs to develop and implement research projects that address conservation needs at the local, state, regional, and international levels. Dr. Jodice's lab primarily conducts research on avian ecology and conservation, with a focus on seabirds and shorebirds in marine and coastal systems. The lab pursues questions related to physiological ecology, foraging ecology, movement ecology, distribution and abundance, and reproductive energetics often in an effort to address conservation issues. Although much of this research has been driven by management and conservation issues, the results are often of both an applied and basic nature. Current and recently completed projects include Tracking Atlantic and Caribbean Seabirds (TRACS), investigating the spatial and reproductive ecology of brown pelicans in the Gulf and Atlantic, developing an atlas of seabird colonies in the Gulf states, and examining distribution, abundance, and ecological relationships of marine birds in pelagic waters of the Gulf. The Jodice lab also regularly engages in professional service and capacity building. Dr. Jodice currently serves as the Past Chair of the World Seabird Union and as the Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation.
