Environmental Setting of the Granger Drain and DR2 Basins, Washington, 2003-04 Environmental Setting of the Granger Drain and DR2 Basins, Washington, 2003-04
The Granger Drain and DR2 basins are located in the Yakima River basin in south central Washington. These agricultural basins are one of five areas in the United States selected for study as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment Program Agricultural Chemicals: Source, Transport, and Fate Study. The Program is designed to describe water-quality conditions and trends based on...

Characterization of instream hydraulic and riparian habitat conditions and stream temperatures of the Upper White River Basin, Washington, using multispectral imaging systems Characterization of instream hydraulic and riparian habitat conditions and stream temperatures of the Upper White River Basin, Washington, using multispectral imaging systems
Instream hydraulic and riparian habitat conditions and stream temperatures were characterized for selected stream segments in the Upper White River Basin, Washington. An aerial multispectral imaging system used digital cameras to photograph the stream segments across multiple wavelengths to characterize fish habitat and temperature conditions. All imageries were georeferenced. Fish...

Water quality in the Puget Sound basin, Washington and British Columbia, 1996-98 Water quality in the Puget Sound basin, Washington and British Columbia, 1996-98
Puget Sound basin streams during 1995-98 met most guidelines and criteria. Seventy-four manmade compounds were detected and different mixtures linked to land use. Urban expansion into forested areas is changing stream habitats--urban and agricultural streams are warmer and support less diverse insect populations than streams in forested areas. Elevated nitrate concentrations and the...

Sediment-filled pots in upland gravels of Maryland and Virginia Sediment-filled pots in upland gravels of Maryland and Virginia
Pot-shaped depressions filled with sandy clayey silt are found in "Upland" gravels (previously termed Brandywine) of probable Miocene age, in northeastern Maryland and in Virginia near Washington, D.C. The pots are about 7 ft (2m) deep and commonly are about as wide. In plan, many are strongly elliptical. Sides are steep or even bulbous, and the filling in some pots shows faint...

Trace elements investigations in the Sweepstakes Creek area, Koyuk district, Seward Peninsula, Alaska Trace elements investigations in the Sweepstakes Creek area, Koyuk district, Seward Peninsula, Alaska
A significant content of radioactive material was recognized in a few placer concentrates from Sweepstakes and Rube Creeks in the Koyuk district of eastern Seward Peninsula, Alaska, when old collections were scanned for radioactivity in the spring of 1945. Subsequent field investigations with a Geiger-Mueller counter were made of the creek gravels and the placer-gold paystreak on the...
