North Central CASC Director, Robin O'Malley, Awarded for Lifetime Achievement in Climate Adaptation
Robin O'Malley, Director of the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center, was recently honored with the Margaret A. Davidson Award for Adaptation Career Excellence.
This award was presented to O'Malley by the National Adaptation Forum and its sponsoring organization, EcoAdapt, for his lifetime achievement in the field of climate change adaptation.
This award is the first annual presentation of the Margaret A. Davidson Award for Adaptation Career Excellence. Davidson, who passed away in 2017 after a long illness, was known as a "visionary" in the global coastal community. Her career included acting as special counsel and assistant attorney general for the Louisiana Department of Justice and later as the executive director of the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium. She was also founding director of NOAA's Coastal Services Center and later became the NOAA Senior Leader for Coastal Inundation and Resilience.

Robin O'Malley, USGS Director of the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center, is the former Policy and Partnership Coordinator at the USGS National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCASC), which manages the eight regional CASCs. The mission of the Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CASCs) is to deliver science to help fish, wildlife, water, land, and people adapt to a changing climate.
Prior to joining NCASC, Robin was Director of Program Development and Director of the Environmental Reporting Program at The H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment. Robin has also worked at the Department of the Interior, both on the Policy staff and as Chief of Staff for the National Biological Survey, served as a Special Assistant to Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt, Deputy Science Advisor within the Interior Department, Associate Director for Natural Resources at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), and senior environmental advisor to Governor Thomas H. Kean of New Jersey. He holds a master's degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York.
