Data

Basic hydrologic data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and archiving are major parts of the California Water Science Center program. Streamflow data, for example, are used for flood and water-supply forecasts, planning and design, river regulation, streamflow statistics, and research investigations. Much of the data are available on a near-real-time basis by satellite telemetry.

Water chemistry data for samples collected at groundwater sites in the Montebello Oil Field study area, September 2014–October 2018, Los Angeles County, California Water chemistry data for samples collected at groundwater sites in the Montebello Oil Field study area, September 2014–October 2018, Los Angeles County, California

The California State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) initiated the Regional Groundwater Monitoring Program (RMP) to assess effects of oil and gas development on groundwater designated for any beneficial use. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is the technical lead in conducting the RMP through the California Oil, Gas, and Groundwater (COGG) Program, working in...

Potential Explanatory Factors for Groundwater Quality in the Sacramento Metropolitan Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit, 2017: California GAMA Priority Basin Project Potential Explanatory Factors for Groundwater Quality in the Sacramento Metropolitan Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit, 2017: California GAMA Priority Basin Project

This data release codifies and attributes explanatory factors that could potentially impact groundwater quality at 49 groundwater sites used for domestic water supply in the Sacramento Metropolitan Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit (SacMetro-DSA). Water quality from domestic groundwater sites in the SacMetro-DSA was assessed as part of the California State Water Resources Control Board...

Central Valley Hydrologic Model version 2 (CVHM2): Well Log Lithology Database and Texture Model Central Valley Hydrologic Model version 2 (CVHM2): Well Log Lithology Database and Texture Model

These data encompass the geologic framework model for the Central Valley Hydrologic Model Version 2 (CVHM2) study. This includes (1) the Well Log Database which contains borehole information and lithology used in creating the geologic framework, (2) Well Logs with Classification Information which explains how percent coarse values were determined for each borehole, and (3) the Three...

Regional water table Contours of the Antelope Valley and Fremont Valley groundwater basins, Southwestern Mojave Desert, California, March 2014 Regional water table Contours of the Antelope Valley and Fremont Valley groundwater basins, Southwestern Mojave Desert, California, March 2014

Water levels were measured during March 2014 in wells in the Antelope Valley and Fremont Valley groundwater basins, southwestern Mojave Desert, California, in cooperation with the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water District, Palmdale Water District, and Littlerock Creek Irrigation District. These data document recent conditions and, when compared with previous data, changes in groundwater...

Model Archive Summary for Suspended-Sediment Concentration at Station 11185185 – Upper Sensor; Suisun Bay at Mallard Island, California – Water Years 2018-2020 Model Archive Summary for Suspended-Sediment Concentration at Station 11185185 – Upper Sensor; Suisun Bay at Mallard Island, California – Water Years 2018-2020

This model archive summary details the suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) model developed to compute 15-minute SSC values from 15-minute turbidity data for the period October 01, 2017 through September 30, 2020. The methods used follow U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) guidance as referenced in Office of Water Quality Technical Memorandum 2016.10 (USGS 2016) and USGS Techniques and...

Pesticide Concentrations in American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) Tadpoles Collected from Ponds and Reservoirs near Mead, Nebraska Pesticide Concentrations in American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) Tadpoles Collected from Ponds and Reservoirs near Mead, Nebraska

To evaluate the potential uptake and accumulation of pesticides in amphibians, American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) tadpoles were collected from surface water sites (four ponds and one reservoir) in 2021 near Mead, Nebraska. Sites were located in the landscape surrounding the AltEn ethanol plant, a plant which had previously received pesticide treated (coated) seeds. Tadpoles were...

Groundwater-quality data in the Butte-Sutter-Yuba Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit, 2021: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project Groundwater-quality data in the Butte-Sutter-Yuba Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit, 2021: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project

The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 38 wells used for domestic and small system drinking water supplies in Butte, Sutter, and Yuba counties of California during 2021. The wells were sampled for the Butte-Sutter-Yuba Domestic-Supply Aquifer Study Unit of the State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority...

MODFLOW-6 model to update and extend the Los Angeles Coastal Plain Groundwater Model MODFLOW-6 model to update and extend the Los Angeles Coastal Plain Groundwater Model

The Los Angeles Coastal Plain (LACP) covers about 580 square miles and is the largest coastal plain of semiarid southern California. The LACP is heavily developed with mostly residential, commercial, and industrial land uses that rely heavily on groundwater for water supply. In 2010, the LACP was home to about 14 percent of California’s population and is also a major commercial and...

Lower Salinas Valley Hydrologic Models: Climate Data Lower Salinas Valley Hydrologic Models: Climate Data

This digital dataset contains the climate data used for the Lower Salinas Valley Hydrologic Models (Salinas Valley Integrated Hydrologic Model (SVIHM) and Salinas Valley Operational Model (SVOM)). The monthly climate data for the Lower Salinas Valley Hydrologic Models are based on the regional climate data for the Salinas Valley Hydrologic System [Hevesi and others, 2022]. To develop the...

Salinas Valley Hydrologic System: Regional Climate Data (ver 2.0, February 2025) Salinas Valley Hydrologic System: Regional Climate Data (ver 2.0, February 2025)

This digital dataset contains the climate data used for the Salinas Valley Hydrologic System, including the Salinas Valley Watershed Model (SVWM) and the Lower Salinas Valley Hydrologic Models (Salinas Valley Integrated Hydrologic Model (SVIHM) and Salinas Valley Operational Model (SVOM)). The climate data include spatially distributed daily precipitation, maximum and minimum air...

Salinas Valley Operational Model: Input Operational Data (ver. 2.0, September 2023) Salinas Valley Operational Model: Input Operational Data (ver. 2.0, September 2023)

This digital dataset contains the surface water operational data used for the Salinas Valley Operational Model (SVOM) including the timeseries data and the operational rules. While much of the input data is shared between the Salinas Valley Operational Model (SVOM) and the Salinas Valley Integrated Hydrologic Model (SVIHM), the SVOM has additional input data specific to the purpose and...

Los Angeles Basin Watershed Model (LABWM) using INFIL4.0 Los Angeles Basin Watershed Model (LABWM) using INFIL4.0

This data release documents the datasets and procedures used to update the Los Angeles Basin Watershed Model (LABWM) (Hevesi and Johnson, 2016) from INFIL3.0 (USGS, 2008a, 2008b) to INFIL4.0. The LABWM provides gridded monthly infiltration, evaporation, recharge, and runoff estimates for the Los Angeles region using the water balance recharge model, INFIL. INFIL is a grid-based...
