Understanding and streamlining environmental DNA QA/QC analysis
Simplify QA/QC analysis for eDNA scientists and explain it for resource managers
Reliable and trustworthy data are crucial for making effective decisions when managing our natural resources. To support that goal, environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis is rapidly growing both in capability and capacity. Numerous labs have been established to generate these data at a large scale, and the QA/QC processes vary in rigor and how they are done. Automating those processes can substantially improve throughput while ensuring QA/QC is rigorous and transparent. Therefore, we propose to develop an R shiny app that will accessibly enable labs to use R scripts that we have developed for evaluating and exporting eDNA data in a standardized machine-readable format without requiring coding ability. Additionally, we propose to develop a web page for stakeholders that explains in plain language what steps should be completed for QA/QC of eDNA data, why they are done, and how to determine if labs are following rigorous processes.
