eMODIS Phenology Data Dictionary Active

The Data Dictionaries are a set of information describing the contents, format, and structure of elements for EarthExplorer products.

 

Begin Date

  • Field Definition:  The first day of data acquisition for the source data at the start of the collection period. The begin date and end date are used to indicate the date range for the annual metrics.

          Format:

          YYYY/MM/DD

          YYYY = Year

          MM = Month

          DD = Day

 

Collection Identification

  • Field Definition:  Collection source of the data.

          Values:

          5

          6

 

Coordinates Decimal Degrees

  • Field Definition:  The latitude and longitude are provided in decimal degrees for the following fields:

          Values:

          Scene Center Latitude and Longitude

          Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

          Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

          Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

          Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

 

           Latitude Format Decimal Degrees: -90.000 through 90.000

           Longitude Format Decimal Degrees: -180.000 through 180.000

 

           Number of decimal places will vary by dataset – check collection in EE.

 

Coordinates Degrees, Minutes, Seconds

  • Field Definition:  The latitude and longitude are provided in degrees, minutes, and seconds for the following fields:

          Values:

          Scene Center Latitude and Longitude

          Northeast (NE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

          Northwest (NW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

          Southeast (SE) Corner Latitude and Longitude

          Southwest (SW) Corner Latitude and Longitude

 

          Longitude Format:

          DDDMMSS.SSH

          DDD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 180

          MM = Minute(s) with a range of 0 through 59

          SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99

          H = Hemisphere with E for east and W for west

 

          Latitude Format:

          DDMMSS.SSH

          DD = Degree(s) with a range of 0 through 90

          MM = Minutes(s) with a range of 0 through 59

          SS.SS = Second(s) with a range of 0 through 59.99

          H = Hemisphere with N for north and S for south

 

Date Updated

  • Field Definition:  The date of update (if any) to the data.

          Format:

          YYYY/MM/DD

          YYYY = Year

          MM = Month

          DD = Day

 

End Date

  • Field Definition:  The last day of data acquisition for the source data at the end of the collection period. The begin date and end date are used to indicate the date range for the annual metrics.

          Format:

          YYYY/MM/DD

          YYYY = Year

          MM = Month

          DD = Day

 

Ellipsoid

  • Field Definition:  The ellipsoid for the projection is based on the model of the Earth as a sphere with a major axis (radius) of 6,370,997 meters.

          Values:

          SPHERE_6370997

 

Entity ID

  • Field Definition:  The naming convention of each file is based on product attributes.

          Format:

          PHEMUSWYYYYVVV

          PH = phenology

          EM = eMODIS

          US = Location

          W = East or West

          2008 = Year

          V01 = Version

          Example:

               PHEMUSW2008V01

 

          PHEVUSWYYYYVVV

          PH = phenology

          EV = eVIIRS

          US = Location

          W = East or West

          2008 = Year

          V01 = Version

Layers

  • Field Definition:  A list of the phenology indicators (layers) included in the download.

          Values:

          AMP = Amplitude

          DUR = Duration

          EOSN = End of Season NDVI

          EOST = End of Season Time

          MAXN = Maximum NDVI

          MAXT = Maximum Time

          SOSN = Start of Season NDVI

          SOST = Start of Season Time

          TIN = Time-Integrated NDVI

 

Projection

  • Field Definition:  The reference system used to map the data.

          Example:

               Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area

 

Region

  • Field Definition:  The 250m eMODIS Phenology data for the conterminous U.S. are divided into Eastern and Western regions.

 

Resolution

  • Field Definition:  The distance on the ground represented by each pixel.

 

Sensor

  • Field Definition:  The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) is the instrument on the satellite used to acquire the source data for the product.

 

Units

  • Field Definition:  The unit of measure associated with the resolution.

         Values:

         Meters

 

Year of Season

  • Field Definition:  The calendar year associated with the annual record of phenology indicators.

 

Version

  • Field Definition:  The version of MODIS source data used to create the product. The original eMODIS Phenology data set was processed using MODIS Version/Collection 5 source data.
