Genome Sequencing for Pathogen Identification

Genome sequencing for pathogen identification: Many pathogens cannot be isolated and cultured making it difficult to determine its presence or identify which can delay treatment. By sequencing the genome of an unknown pathogen, a researcher can obtain a more thorough understanding of the pathogen, it’s identity and ways to treat the infected animal. It also allows the researcher to detect and identify pathogens on an animal that are currently not expressing pathogenicity. Identification of potential pathogens under this condition allows the researcher time to determine if changing health or environmental factors could cause the organism to become pathogenic under a different set of environmental circumstances.
