WEBINAR
The Interagency Flood Risk Management (InFRM) team is a multi-agency collaboration between the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Weather Service (NWS) to integrate information and simplify access to flood-risk data.  One of the InFRM team’s web products is the Flood Decision Support Toolbox (FDST), which displays flood inundation map libraries on a local scale referenced to real-time USGS streamgage data and NWS river forecasts and flood categories throughout FEMA Region 6, including Texas.  

The FDST enables enhanced flood preparedness and awareness through scenario planning with modeled flood depth grids available at select streamgages in half foot intervals from flood stage to maximum expected flood.  Ready-to use libraries of flood-inundation maps enable pre-flood risk assessment, and real-time hydrograph and forecasted stage information enable an informed emergency response to flooding events in real-time. The FDST is unique among flood risk projects in its multi-agency approach, web-ready products, and cooperation between federal, state, and local partners.  Furthermore, the FDST is a ‘living’ website, and as local partners complete hydraulic models of river reaches, those models can readily be leveraged to create additional flood inundation map libraries following InFRM guidelines.

PRESENTER
Sam Wallace is a Hydrologist at the USGS Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center in Fort Worth, TX.  He received a B.S. in Environmental Science from Oklahoma State University in 2013 and then a M.S. in Environmental Geology from Rutgers University-Newark in 2015.  He has been with the USGS for 8 years and has been a part of the Interagency Flood Risk Management team for 5 of those years.  His areas of expertise and interest include flood inundation mapping, surface water modeling, statistical hydrology, and near-surface geophysics.
