Upper Midwest Water Science Center scientists attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences Career and Networking Fair.

The next generation of freshwater scientists had a chance to meet two USGS researchers during the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences Career and Networking Fair on March 6, 2026.

Upper Midwest Water Science Center Physical Scientist James Romano and Hydrologist Hailey Trompeter attended the event speaking with students about the wide range of career paths available within the agency. Throughout the fair, they shared perspectives from their own research and field experiences, offering a firsthand look at the scientific work that supports water resources across the Upper Midwest.

James and Hailey also highlighted how USGS science contributes to communities nationwide, from monitoring water quality and streamflow to advancing research that helps protect natural resources. Their participation gave students an opportunity to explore federal science careers while learning how their studies can translate into real‑world impact.
