The Geologic Photos of Alaska application (http://doi.org/10.14509/photodb) is a photo archiving tool that also makes photographs available to the public. Development of the application was funded through an NGGDPP FY 2016 grant. Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has received several recent media requests for photos in the database, and Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources is exploring using the database to house 5 GB of images. DGGS is working to upload and publicly share annual field season photos, and the application is being used to research and display photos on DGGS’ website. The database is continually updated, and includes approximately 7,000 public images and over 13,000 private/working images. To enhance discovery of the photograph collection, the images are also publicly cataloged in the National Digital Catalog.
