Concentration of PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid) in water and freshwater diatoms (Mayamaea atomus) in a bioaccumulation study conducted at U.S. Geological Survey, Columbia Environmental Research Center in July 2021

May 5, 2025

Two laboratory experiments were conducted to understand PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid) bioaccumulation in freshwater benthic diatoms (Mayamaea atomus). The first experiment tested bioconcentration at multiple PFOS concentrations (0, 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, 100 micrograms per liter) after 7 days of exposure. The second explored uptake and depuration of 0.1 micrograms per liter PFOS at multiple time points over 7 days. Both data sets include PFOS concentrations in water and diatoms as well as diatom mass.
