Deep ocean self-potential data from the Escanaba Trough (Central Hill)
This data release contains self-potential (SP) electric field data collected at the Escanaba Trough, Central Hill, in the northeast Pacific Ocean during the USGS research expedition in 2022. The datasets were gathered by the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) Sentry using a redundant, quasi-three-component electric field sensor with six channels. The release comprises comprehensive time and location data (including coordinates, depth, altitude, and AUV’s position), seawater temperature, conductivity, processed SP electric field data presented across individual channels, and East-North-Up (ENU) and inertial North-East-Down (NED) frame of reference. Additionally, the release includes distinct SP potential maps generated through three unique processing techniques: a regularized inversion of horizontal data, a spatial integral of gridded vertical data, and modeling via equivalent point source.
