Detection data, positional data, and analysis of the migration patterns of five native fish species in the Sandusky River and Lake Erie, 2022-2023
This data release contains detection and positional data from acoustically tagged fishes used to determine if fish species in the Sandusky River migrate through a location proposed for an invasive species deterrent. Five species—Shorthead Redhorse (Moxostoma macrolepidotum), White Bass (Morone chrysops), Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), Freshwater Drum (Aplodinotus grunniens), and Smallmouth Buffalo (Ictiobus bubalus)—were tagged to capture various migratory behaviors and life history strategies that may interact with deterrent systems differently. Fish detection and positional data were collected from 2022-2023 and were used to estimate weekly and monthly probabilities of each fish crossing the proposed deterrent site. Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) detection and positional data from 2022-2023 were also compiled to compare with the native fish movements.
