Geospatial Data to Assess Karst Aquifer Systems in Northern New York
This data release contains geospatial data for a region of karst terrain in northern New York State that extends from eastern Lake Ontario and the Mohawk Valley to the state border with Vermont and the United States-Canada border. These geospatial datasets include the location and extent of karstic rock; bedrock geology and elevation; average water-table configuration; surficial geology; soil type, thickness, and hydraulic conductivity; land cover; and closed depressions in the land surface. Data set areal extents are limited to 7.5-minute quadrangles containing karst-prone bedrock units. Where adjacent quadrangles contain karst-prone bedrock, data were merged to create a larger areal extent. Areal extents are organized as child items by county but clipped to quadrangles in which the majority area is within that county. Methods used to create the geospatial layers are described in Sporleder and others (2021).
