GIS and mineral inventory tabular data for undeveloped and select developed magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE resources in the United States, to accompany Ni-Cu-PGE fact sheet

September 1, 2026

This dataset provides an overview of undeveloped and select developed magmatic sulfide deposits within the United States that contain nickel, copper, and the platinum-group elements. It summarizes what is known about their locations, sizes, and geology using publicly available data. The selected developed deposits (J-M Reef and Eagle) are included for the sake of comparison. These data include a zip file (NiCuPGE_FS_Shapefiles.zip) which contains four shapefiles containing point locations of undeveloped U.S. magmatic sulfide deposits enriched in nickel, copper, and the platinum-group elements (NiCuPGE_FS_Deposits.shp), lines representing the surface trace of the J-M Reef deposit (NiCuPGE_FS_JM_Reef.shp), polygons of the igneous intrusions that host the deposits (NiCuPGE_FS_Intrusions.shp), and polygons representing the surface projection of mineral inventory resource blocks for the deposits (NiCuPGE_FS_Resource_blocks.shp), along with a .csv file containing mineral inventory information about the magmatic sulfide deposits (NiCuPGE_FS_Resources_table.csv), and a .csv file containing the full references for source literature (NiCuPGE_FS_Full_references.csv). Also included are two 'data dictionary' .csv files which include: 1) a description of the column and field headings in the files (NiCuPGE_FS_Data_dictionary_columns.csv), and 2) a description of each of the files (NiCuPGE_FS_Data_dictionary_files.csv). Note that the mineral inventory data listed in the "NiCuPGE_FS_Resources_table.csv." file sometimes contains multiple rows of data for a single deposit and that the data is not meant to be summed using all rows to achieve a total estimation of mineral inventory for a site. Multiple rows of data for a single site may hold information about the reserves and resources, or information about certain elements reported from different sources, or data reported at different cut-off grades.
