Invasive mussel control with benthic and CO2 mats on lake whitefish spawning reefs in Lake Michigan, July to August, 2025
The study compared the survival of quagga mussels after a 4 to 5-day treatment with carbon dioxide infusion under a mat and a 30-day treatment under canvas and polyvinyl benthic mats. The study was conducted in Good Harbor Bay, Leelanau County, Michigan. The data include water quality (dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, conductivity) and water chemistry (alkalinity and hardness), quagga mussel mortality of caged mussels within treatments, percent live mussels in quadrat surveys before and after treatment; shell lengths of caged mussels, CO2 dosing schedule, CO2-pH titration in Lake Michigan water (for estimation of CO2 during treatment), continuous sonde measurements of dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH in CO2 plots, continuous measurement of temperature and dissolved oxygen in CO2 mat, benthic mat, and reference plots.
