Model archive summary for suspended-sediment concentration at station 11516530, Klamath River below Iron Gate Dam, California, October 2023 to December 2024

March 18, 2026

This model archive summary (MAS) and associated model calibration data describes a surrogate model used to compute suspended-sediment concentrations (SSC) at USGS streamgage 11516530 from October 2023 to December 2024. The period of analysis computes SSC during the drawdown and removals of three dams upstream of the streamgage and represents novel suspended-sediment transport conditions due to the release of large amounts of sediment impounded behind the upstream dams.  The methods used to compute SSC using turbidity as a surrogate follow USGS guidance as referenced in Office of Surface Water /Office of Water Quality technical memoranda 16.07/10.07 (https://water.usgs.gov/osw/pubs/memo.summaries.html) and USGS techniques and methods, book 3-chapter C4 (https://www.doi.org/10.3133/tm3C4).
