Mycobiota of black-legged tick Ixodes scapularis in Vermont, USA

Ticks and their diseases are a public health concern, thus novel tick management approaches are needed. Ticks are associated with a variety of microbes, including some fungi known to be pathogens that cause tick host mortality. We characterized the fungal tick mycobiota in Vermont, USA to determine the effects of habitat, management strategy, tick life stage, and season. We also compared the presence of fungal tick pathogens across treatments to assess their future biocontrol potential.
