Shorebird survey data from Cat and Ship Island, MS, 2012-2023
August 26, 2025
This dataset contains shorebird survey data conducted before (pre) and after (post) barrier island restoration of Cat and Ship Island, Mississippi. The Mississippi barrier islands provide critical habitat for migratory and resident shorebirds, including many federally threatened and endangered (T&E) species. Long-term monitoring of shorebirds before and after restoration is essential to understand how the shorebirds respond to barrier island habitat change. These data will be used to inform the Mississippi Coastal Improvements Program (MsCIP) Monitoring and Adaptive Management Plan (MAMP) objectives, including modeling suitable shorebird foraging habitat and suitable habitat acreage for threatened and endangered (T&E) shorebird species.
