Simulations of Groundwater Nitrogen Transport in the Long Island, New York Aquifer System Under Potential Nitrogen Management Scenarios (ver. 2.0, January 2026)
This data release contains simulation results from twenty-three (23) transient inset numerical models of the eastern part of Long Island, New York that includes the Peconic River, and estuaries around the North and South Fork. The models simulate nitrogen concentrations in the aquifer and nitrogen loads to surface water bodies from 2020-2120 under different nitrogen inputs that represent potential nitrogen management decisions. Simulations are based on the inset MODFLOW 6 (Hughes and others, 2017) flow and transport models documented in Jahn and Walter (2024a & b).

Revised January 2026, ver 2.0
Version 1.0: In this version of the dataset, the 250x250-foot inset model arrays (such as recharge, nitrogen inputs, initial conditions) were shifted north by 1 regional model rows (equivalent to 500 feet) and west by 1 regional model column (equivalent to 500 feet) due to a geospatial processing error. This resulted in the incorrect placement of those arrays relative to the inset coastlines.
Version 2.0: This version of the dataset has been updated with correctly aligned inset model arrays for all scenarios. Corresponding model output and postprocessed files have been updated.
