Substrate Imagery Classifications for Lake Trout Spawning Habitat in Lake Ontario, 2023-2024
April 11, 2025
This dataset is the result of international collaborative efforts by the United States Geological Survey, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans. These data provide substrate information along the shoreline of Lake Ontario between 3 and 30 meters in depth. We used drop camera videos to classify substrates with the goal to quantify the amount of quality habitat that could potentially be used for Lake Trout (Salvelinus namaycush) spawning and egg incubation. The videos described within this data release are in zipped files, organized by the collecting agency.
