Thermal infrared images and temperature matrices from the 2026 Surface Temperature Variability Experiment at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, Arizona
This data release contains thermal infrared image renderings and comma-separated values (CSV) temperature-matrix exports collected on May 29, 2026, during the Surface Temperature Variability Experiment (STEVE) at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, Arizona. Data were collected using two FLIR T650sc thermal infrared cameras viewing a volcanic cinder surface from two viewing directions separated by approximately 90 degrees. The release includes original image files and four sets of FLIR-exported CSV temperature matrices generated using different radiometric processing assumptions for emissivity and target distance. These data document apparent surface-temperature patterns over a cinder patch during an abbreviated early-morning field deployment. Field acquisition was affected by wind, equipment-stability issues, and a shortened observation period; users should consult the metadata for limitations before using the data.
