Vegetation and ground cover constituents within Capulin and Frijoles canyon bottoms in the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico, US 2020
Please see (https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/6827a7c9d4be02693eeabdc3) for more information on the broader project associated with this data release and additional, related datasets.
This data release presents observations of vegetation and ground cover within Capulin and Frijoles canyon bottoms in the Jemez Mountains, including Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico. Methods included resampling of 400 m2 (square meters) vegetation plots originally sampled between 2003-2007 by Natural Heritage New Mexico (NHNM). Resampling of vegetation plots took place in August 2020. Vegetation sampling methods followed established protocols used by NHNM. Percent cover of all vascular plants present in each vegetation plot was estimated. The percent ground cover of several constituents was also estimated. The data release includes three .csv files related to field observations: 1) vegetation plot locations including canyon, UTM coordinates, and distance upstream of the Rio Grande; 2) cover estimates for plant life forms/strata, plant species, and ground cover constituents; 3) species codes, names, and characteristics.
