Vertical Profiles of Water Quality in the Lower Hudson River, New York, 2023-2024
This dataset contains vertical water-quality profiles of the Hudson River collected over two field seasons from May through October 2023 and May through September 2024. Data were collected at 27 equidistant transects along the lower Hudson River from Troy to Riverdale, NY using a stratified random sampling design. Each month, a single sampling location was randomly selected along each transect and profiled from the water surface to the river bottom using a calibrated multiparameter sonde.
The dataset features 233 depth profiles containing field measurements of temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and fluorescent dissolved organic matter (fDOM). Additionally, discrete water quality data were collected simultaneously during these profile measurements. These discrete data can be downloaded from Water Data for the Nation (https://waterdata.usgs.gov/download-samples/) and matched with profile data using the value in the ActivityIdentifier field in the Profile_DataRelease.csv file.
