USGS uses the latest tools of molecular biology and genetics to address the ecology of infectious diseases affecting both fish and wildlife. USGS science centers, like the National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC), and interagency partnerships provide the foundation for innovative disease management tools like the vaccine for sylvatic plague.

The National Wildlife Health Center is focusing on three main vaccines right now: sylvatic plague, white-nose syndrome, and rabies.
