The Cottonwood Common Garden in 2025

Detailed Description
Researchers, including Jonathan Friedman (pictured here) planted cottonwoods in this Common Garden plot in 2005, and since have monitored the growth and phenology of these trees. Every year since 2017, they cut back the trees to remove the confounding effect of age. Current plans include using this long-term data to calibrate a phenological model relating cottonwood phenology to daily variation in temperature and daylength. Photo by Janet Prevéy (USGS).
