Rainier seismic swarm update - July 14, 2025
Detailed Description
In this video, Cascades Volcano Observatory (CVO) scientists Tyler Paladino and Alex Iezzi and Mount Rainier National Park Geologist Scott Beason provide an update on the earthquake swarm at Mount Rainier.
Since the swarm began on July 8 there have been over 700 located events and hundreds of additional earthquakes too small to be located. While earthquake rates have decreased significantly from over 30 events per hour to the present 1–2 events per hour, low-level seismicity has persisted at a steady rate for the past few days. CVO and the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) will continue to monitor the activity and provide updates via social media, the CVO website, the PNSN website, and the Volcano Notification Service.
