Simplifying Geospatial Data Workflows with NASA's AppEEARS

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center maintains one of the largest civilian collection of images of the Earth’s land surface. At EROS we study land change and produce land change data products used by researchers, resource managers, and policy makers across the nation and around the world. The EROS User Services team provides assistance and outreach to help users in the data community access and work with data distributed from EROS. As part of the outreach effort, the EROS User Services team provides the EROS User Experience webinar series, where we talk to staff at EROS to learn more about the data, tools, and services provided by the USGS EROS. This webinar on the Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS) was part of that series.  
 
AppEEARS is a powerful web application that provides access to more than 100 geospatial datasets from multiple agencies including several NASA Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs), the USGS EROS center, the National Park Service (NPS), and more.   

With AppEEARS users can extract data for point locations or areas of interest for specific variables and time ranges, which results in a large reduction of download volumes. AppEEARS provides additional services including clipping and mosaicking the data for you, as well as reformatting and reprojecting outputs. Using the web application, users can explore the data with built in visualizations prior to download. For users who prefer working within a programming environment, it is also possible to interact with the AppEEARS API. This webinar will showcase AppEEARS capabilities and highlight how using AppEEARS can assist users in simplifying geospatial data workflows.
