Code for Doe diligence: A regional analysis of antlerless deer harvest regulations in the Midwestern United States of America
April 16, 2025
This code uses Nimble to run a Bayesian hierarchical model using both linear and nonlinear features. The model assesses the effects of various changes in white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) harvest regulations on realized annual antlerless harvest. Eight states participated in this analysis and all data was unified to a common definition through extensive consultation with experts at each agency. All data fed into the model has been standardized at the individual harvest unit level, this allowed for the comparison of hundreds of units across the states that varied in size and other factors that could confound an analysis if not controlled for.
