About

The BASCORE Lab is housed within the Florence Bascom Geoscience Center at the U.S. Geological Survey. The lab facility is located in the Physics Building on the USGS National Center campus in Reston, Virginia.

Since its establishment in 2016 the lab has primarily been funded by the USGS Land Change Science Program and works with other Programs and Mission Areas including the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP), Energy and Mineral Resources, and Natural Hazards. The lab works with scientists studying the sedimentology, paleoecology, and geochemistry of cores related to natural hazards, land change studies, geologic mapping, and critical minerals assessments across the United States. The lab offers its capabilities to non-USGS researchers as well.
