Discrete automated analysis

Colorimetric analysis is automated at the NWQL using Discrete Automated Analysis and Automated Segmented Flow Analysis.  Both approaches work by automating the colorimetric reaction and detection of the analyte.  This automation allows for high throughput of samples while maintaining low detection limits/high sensitivity.  Automated Discrete Analyzers (DAs) work by the discrete analysis of each sample in a separate cuvette.  With Automated DAs, the sample is mixed with color producing chemicals in a cuvette before incubation and final analysis in the same transparent container.  Automated DAs produce less waste than Automated Segmented Flow Analyzers and are used at the NWQL for analysis of nitrate, nitrite, ammonium/ammonia, o-phosphate and silica.
