Activation Process

As an Authorized User (AU) for the International Charter, the USGS may request activations of the Charter on behalf of Federal, State, local, or international agencies that require satellite-based remote sensing to assist with their mandate to respond to natural or man-made disasters. 

Required information for a Charter activation request includes:

  • Point-of-contact (POC) information for requesting agency
  • Type of event
  • Geographic area (coordinates or KML/KMZ/SHP file)
  • Date of event occurrence or expected onset

All information should be provided in English.
