Welcome to CoreFacts, where we're always short on time and big on science. I'm Steve Sobieszczyk. Today's question is for all you map lovers out there.

Where do I buy USGS topographic maps?

There are a number places, both brick and mortar and online, where you can purchase USGS topographic maps. For example, the interpretive association stores co-located within most USGS Information Services offices sell topographic maps. If don't know where the nearest USGS store is, call 1-888-ASK-USGS (that's 1-888-275-8747) for more information. Besides USGS offices, there are also thousands of USGS map dealers in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. In addition, scanned versions of historic topographic maps are available from Novacell Technologies on their website, also listed in our show notes (http://www.novacell.com/). Scanned versions of all the latest USGS topographic maps and aerial photographs are also available online through the online USGS store at http://store.usgs.gov/ and downloadable in digital format through the USGS Map locator and downloader. Lastly, to order USGS Maps by mail write to:

USGS Information Services
Box 25286
Denver, CO 80225

And now you know. Join us every weekday for a new CoreFact. If you have a question you think we should answer on the air, email it to us at corefacts@usgs.gov or leave us a voicemail at 703-648-5600; don't forget long distance fees do apply.
