Internship: Holocene seasonal climatology in south-central Alaska ...
Detailed Description
An underappreciated but potentially important consequence of high latitude climate change is alteration of the seasonal balance of precipitation. The potential for future climate change to affect precipitation seasonality, with corresponding ecological and glaciological consequences, emphasizes the need to investigate sources of information about these processes for the past. This project will utilize isotopic analyses of a unique archive of fossil wood spanning ~10,000 years in the Wrangell-St. Elias region of south central Alaska to document variations in Holocene seasonality of temperature and precipitation.
