The Year Streamflow Records Fell - 2007 Floods in Kansas

fld2007_pstr.pdf (10.05 MB)

Detailed Description

Floods in Kansas between May and July 2007 caused significant damage in more than 20 counties, resulted in one loss of life, and shattered previous streamflow records at 16 long-term streamgages. This poster summarizes the rainfall patterns that produced the floods, describes data collection by USGS staff, compiles where the record streamflow occurred, and summarizes flood damages. Streamflow information collected by the USGS during these floods will be used by FEMA to make better flood maps and provides data for NWS model calibration that results in better flood forecasting.
