This pictograph panel is on the south side of Painted Rock. The dark material is a natural iron-manganese mineral patina deposited by rainwater running down the surface of the rock in the past. The boulder and brush around Painted Rock is prime rattlesnake and poison oak habitat and should be approached with caution.
