Aerial photo of ‘A‘ā flow (middle of photo) spreading from fissure 17 at the lower East Rift Zone during an early morning overflight of the fissure area. Fissure 17 is marked by low lava fountains at the upper end of the ‘A‘ā flow. Note vog conditions downwind (toward the south, left-hand side of photo) of the fissure area. The ash plume rising from Halema‘uma‘u crater at the summit of Kīlauea can be seen in top right of photo.
