Chaco Culture - petroglyphs

Detailed Description

These petroglyphs (stone art) were carved into the desert varnish of the sandstone cliff between the great houses of Chetro Ketl and Pueblo Bonito. The meaning of the petroglyphs is unknown, but the circular spiral is a common form on petroglyph panels throughout the Southwest, with perhaps the most famous on top of nearby Fajada Butte (Sofaer and others, 1979).
