Civil Air Patrol Flight at Dusk

On Wednesday, May 23, the Civil Air Patrol was conducting flights over the lower East Rift Zone eruptive activity. This image shows the scale of the lava channels feeding the ocean entries. Note that lava is over flowing the channels and on top of slightly older, black lava flows. The haze in this image is sulfur-dioxide gas being emitted from the fissure vents.
