Ecosystem Transformation card

Detailed Description
Ecosystem Transformation: If fires burn too hot or too frequently, they can prevent slow-growing native plants and trees from regrowing. When this happens, the landscape will transform into a new type of ecosystem. For example, a forest will become a grassland, a grassland will become a desert, etc. The USGS is at the forefront of understanding ecosystem transformations and helping managers anticipate and prevent unwanted transformations.
