The on-land San Andreas fault zone (SAFZ) and the offshore San Gregorio fault zone (SGFZ) are long, continuous, hazardous faults. Crustal deformation between these two fault zones results in several shorter faults and fractures, including the Monterey Bay fault zone (MBFZ).
