Four Decades of Water Quality Research in San Francisco Bay
Detailed Description
The continuous study of water quality in San Francisco Bay since 1969 provides a rich dataset to explore how this estuarine system has changed over time. This 2009 presentation depicts: how the rivers and ocean influence the estuary; phytoplankton taxonomy changes due to a large climatic shift; decreasing nutrient concentrations; how phytoplankton blooms have changed in different parts of the system; and improvements in bottom water oxygen levels since the 1970s.
