Golden Spike - steam locomotives

Detailed Description

The locomotive Jupiter (left) and the No. 119 (right) are replicas of the original steam locomotives that were part of the original "Last Spike Ceremony" held on May 10th, 1869. These trains are used for reenactment ceremonies and run along several miles of restored tracks during summer months when visitation is high. During the winter the trains are stored in the Locomotive Engine House (shown here). The Jupiter is also used during a Winter Steam Festival each year. Hundreds of volunteers help the National Park Service with maintenance projects and reenactment activities (NPS, 2010c).
