How are Digital Object Identifiers persistent?

Detailed Description

A DOI is assigned to a URL where an object or information about an object lives. When someone clicks on the DOI, s/he is redirected to the assigned URL.

Example: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7V9870D redirects to https://code.usgs.gov/usgs/fort-pymdwizard

If the URL for an object changes, the publisher or responsible party must update the URL in the metadata for the DOI so that the DOI will continue to redirect users to the object.
