Detailed Description

Map showing the extent of lava flows erupted during Kīlauea's ongoing east rift zone eruption. The areas covered during distinct eruptive phases are shown in unique colors and labeled with the years in which those flows were active. These are broken into Episodes 1-48b (1983-1986) in dark gray; Episodes 48c-49 (1986-1992) in light yellow; Episodes 50-53 and 55 (1992-2007) in tan; Episode 54 (1997) in yellow; Episode 58 (2007-2011) in orange; the Episode 59 Kamoamoa eruption (March 2011) in light reddish orange; the Episode 60 Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō overflows and flank breakout (March-August 2011) in pink, the Episode 61 Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō overflow phase (August-September 2011) in dark reddish brown, and flows of the currently active Episode 61 east flank phase (September 21-ongoing) in bright red.
