Lava fountain erupts from Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō, Kīlauea, Hawai‘i

Lava fountain during episode 31 of the Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō eruption. This episode lasted for nearly 23 hours, and erupted about 19.4 million cubic meters (25.4 cu yd) of lava that covered an area of 4.8 square kilometers (1.8 sq mi). The fountains reached a maximum height of 309 m (1,014 ft). Episode 32 occurred 38 days later.
