Mesa Verde - Sun Temple

Sun Temple is located on the end of a ridge between two canyons at the head of Cliff Canyon. The Sun Temple is built on top of the mesa rather than under one of the overhangs (alcoves). Archeological investigations suggest that the site was used for ceremonial purposes, not habitation (Yandell, 1987). The structure has been stabilized and partially restored so it is accessible to the large numbers of visitors that visit the ruins each year.
