Mesa Verde - Sun Temple
Detailed Description
The Sun Temple has been interpreted to be a ceremonial structure-it lacks doors, windows, and fire pits commonly seen in dwellings. The structure was never completed; apparently the construction stopped about the time when the Ancestral Puebloans began to leave the region. Occupation of Mesa Verde appears to have ended by 1300 A.D., possibly as a result of extended drought in the region between A D. 1276 and 1299 (Watson, 1954).
